Had a fan ask the question today "why are some things 12volt and others 24volt". So I am going to throw this together real quick and try to answer his question.
Typically smaller trolling motors for your boat will use a 12volt system. These are the least expensive for a boat and pretty easy to wire up. The downside to a 12volt system is you will not get as much "force" from your motor and also obviously have decreased battery life associated with this.
A 24 volt system (which I run in my aluminum boat and tournament bass boat) is a little more expensive but definitely a better choice in my opinion. With this your going to get more "force" from your motor as well as extended battery life because instead of pulling all the power from 1 battery your going to pull from 2. If you have the option I would recommend a 24volt system! Some people are now even stepping up to 36volt systems on bigger boats. For this of course your going to have 3 batteries. Here is a link to show you how to wire a 24volt system to your boat. How to wire a 24volt trolling motor If you need anymore help feel free to contact me all contact info is on my website Www.DustinKingFishing.com

End of "Regular" Season...Heading to the Post Season
Man....what a weekend. This weekend I went into the BASS Weekend Series 2 day Division Championship with one thing on my mind, WIN! I wasn't going to try and "just catch a limit for points" or something crazy like that. I was going to try and target big fish and big fish only so that's what I done. To make a long story super short, I flipped just about all day both days and managed to catch a total of ZERO keepers in 2 days....As my previous blog stated I "got beat on my own conditions" for sure lol but on the bright side I did what I set out to do.
I started out the year trying to go to Mobile for the 2day Regional Championship and was lucky enough to finish 37th out of around 180 anglers. I had to be in the top 40 at the years end to qualify and was in the top 20 prior to this weekend. It was my 1st full year fishing this trail and I hope to just build on this year's success next year. I will be so happy for next year to roll around. If everything goes right, I will get to fish the entire trail as a boater. I will be able to put in the time and effort to find my own fish and do what I do best. I believe I learned some very valuable info this year though and really look forward to next season.
I have to thank everybody that's made this year possible! Without all my sponsors, making regional's wouldn't happen and be super expensive, everything from rods, reels, tackle, and clothes are so appreciated and I greatly enjoy being out on the water representing my awesome team!
1st is TOPWATER CLOTHING, fishing never looked so good on the water till these people came along! They make some sweet clothing for fishermen(and women to!) that absolutely rock! I wear TOPWATER Clothing almost everyday because I know what it stands for, hardworking, fishermen that don't want to fit into the "mold" others do. Make sure to check them out for sure!
Next, Rock Hard Tackle, man their swim jig put NUMEROUS bass in the boat for me this year, I can't argue with the results. We worked together in the beginning and have developed a killer jig that's catching fish all year, deep, shallow, wherever. Also, you can't beat the price! If your looking for some awesome jigs, check out these guy's they offer a great product that works!
3rd is Go2Bait Company, they make a killer handpoured plastic that works wherever I go! Their action and lift are 2nd to none! You can see a demo of these plastics at Www.SetYourHookBaits.com and order online if you like what you see. But deff make sure to look at the demo!
4th Lew's Reels, if you haven't used these reels YOU SHOULD!! They are an extremely affordable reel and top notch tournament quality! If your an experienced tournament fisherman or a beginner looking for a "starter" reel, Lew's has the reel your looking for and can afford!
5th is Greg's Custom Rods! This guy is making a killer custom stick! I absolutely love his flipping stick and my cranking rod! The way he makes these rods are unlike any other you have seen so make sure to check him out! Why get a mass produced rod when you can have one built JUST HOW YOU LIKE IT!
Next, would be ReserveFishing.Com. This is an awesome tool if your looking to book a guide trip or if your a fishing guide looking to increase trips and boost your service marketing! If you would like to book me for a guide trip next year, visit reserve fishing and get on the list before it is to late!
Last but not least, Xfactor Lures, talk about an awesome crankbait.....When money is a factor you better use Xfactor for sure! It put several "money fish" in my boat this year and I am glad to have them on board for the rest of the year going into next year! Get you a full set up of custom lures from Xfactor.....Results....enough said!
In ending I would also like to thank my family, Mary Lynn, my awesome fiance, my fans on Facebook and God. If you try to fish for a living you know it is absolutely impossible without support from every aspect of your life and I can honestly say, I get it! I am greatly looking forward to the Regional Championship and representing these awesome people down south! It will be a blast and a new experience! You all rock!!! Also, a little special mention to the Wired2Fish crew for letting me do my internship with them and keeping everyone up to date with the fishing industry their a special group for sure check them out on Facebook!

Fish With Your Mind....
Let's get into the mind of a competitive angler for a while....let's get into the mind of....me.
A human mind is a powerful tool, especially in fishing, it catches fish, it loses fish, it wins Bassmaster Classics, it makes you zero. I learn this more and more every season, and still can't control it at times. Blame it on the "youthfullness" I assume. Although, the more I watch fishing shows and the pro's on tour, most of them can't control it at times. You "see" this in the way they look, their persona on the water, and also by the way they talk on camera. When you hear a guy talking about "I can't believe its the last day, I am in the lead, and can't catch a fish, I know they've caught fish by now" its a sure sign of not controlling the mind. It causes him to fish faster than he has all week, and he may zero and if he's lucky finish in the top 10. When he was around the fish he just let the mental game get a hold on him.
This year has been the most difficult year I have ever had for the sole fact I am fishing as a co-angler. I didn't want to fish as a co-angler but had to because of school. I have a serious "control" issue and hate not running the boat. All year, every tournament, I have went into it already beat unfortunately. Now that I look back at the previous tournament's I never had a chance. I went into them thinking "I can't believe I am fishing out of the back, I hate this" ect...My mind has killed me this year. Even though I have succeeded in beating every guy I have been with, from the back of the boat, my confidence to win was not to be found. I didn't fish my strengths, I threw a spinning reel with a shaky head, I didn't crankbait fish, I tried to catch a limit, I didn't try to catch big fish like I have always done, because I just wanted that limit, I honestly don't even know if I ever thought about winning. I beat myself every single tournament!
I noticed this several days ago and my thinking on the situation changed. I fished the BFL this year as a boater, went in to it with extremely high confidence and got a nice check at the days end. This week, as a go back to the back of the boat, I have confidence, it is back...thankfully. I fully feel that the mind causes us to do stupid stuff on the water when we aren't thinking right. I feel like you can be around the fish to win, throwing the right bait, and still not catch them because your mind is "gone". I see this when guys fish extremely fast, instead of "slow rolling" a spinnerbait they fish it fast because they either worry about the competition is doing, or don't think they can catch fish in that area.
If I have learned anything this year, it was that the mind causes you to win and lose. I feel like I am very much capable of holding my own in some of the bigger tournament's now. I have known how to fish for years to compete with these guy's now this year...I learned to control my mind better. I am very excited about this weekend, I am going to go fish like I know how, and try to win. No more trying to catch a limit, its time to try and redeem my season and win. If I catch fish that will be great, if I don't then I got beat on my own terms and fished to my strength and can go back home with my head held high at what I have learned this year.
I hope this post helps some of you not go through what I have been through this year. Its been pretty ugly haha but as I said, keep your mind while your on the water. "Dock Talk" helps lose tournaments. Don't pay attention to what guy's are catching fish on, where they say their fishing, ect...always fish with YOUR mind not the guy in the boat next to you mind....YOUR mind. It is your mind that will win tournament's, keep your confidence built up, and hopefully put fish in your boat. If all else fails, you get beat on your own terms, and go back home with the assurance that you didn't do something stupid.

Where to after this??
Here's a little different blog for you to read this is more of a "personal" blog than I normally do feel free to pass it on via Facebook, twitter, ect...and help me get some feedback on ideas and maybe this will come across the right persons computer screen.
I will be starting my internship with the awesome guy's at Wired2Fish in exactly a week, and in case you haven't learned already I will be graduating with my degree in Business Marketing in December if things go well. I currently hold an Associates degree in Business Administration and feel like I have done fairly well at making my mark in the fishing industry. Now that my college career is about to end I have to answer the question...."Where to after this"?
I have been very blessed to live on Lake Neely Henry and cut my "teeth" fishing this lake, starting with bream, catfish, then moving to fishing bass tournament's. When I was just 12years old I fished my first full day bass tournament out of my grandfather's flatbottom boat and beat some of the local big names winning 3rd place and getting a $750 check. Some of the guy's I beat fish the PAA, BASS Opens, ect...so that was pretty impressive for a 12 year old kid, of course I may be partial lol.
I would really like to start a full-time guide service on Lake Neely Henry next year but I know how hard it is to do. I have been very blessed to be in a couple magazines along the way and took out a lot of people on the lake just guiding part-time between school classes, work, ect...but now that graduation is upon me I got to figure our where to head from here and how to make a living. I have college loan payments that are going to show up in my mailbox if I have a trip booked or not, I have bills to pay, ect....so I figure I need an alternate source of income until my guide service starts going "full steam". It's really hard to find a job that you can say "hey, I have a guide trip today, I can't come in". I have decided that pretty much my only option would be that of an outdoor writer. I have been involved in the outdoors since I was 4years old going squirrel hunting with my grandfather and have always been involved in hunting and fishing. I feel like being an outdoor writer would give me the opportunity to write before or after trips, and also I could write about my guide trips in general, test product's, that type of thing while I am with a guide client. I feel like being on the water everyday guiding would greatly help me as a writer and being able to write awesome articles on every aspect of fishing.
If you know anyone that is willing to help me out, I would greatly appreciate you sending them my way regarding this subject. I honestly do not know the way to go about writing for money, the only experience I have in writing is through college papers. I would need somebody to teach me the "technical side" of writing because I already know about the "fishing and outdoor side" of writing. I appreciate the help everyone and greatly looking forward to an exciting year next year and school semester as I work with Wired2Fish and learn from this awesome group of guy's!
Thank You,
Dustin King

Why We Fish?
I decided to break away from the norm on this one lol I just decided to talk about "Why We Fish". In these blogs I am going to try and keep it short and to the point. I was noticing the other day as I was out with my grandfather at the amount of people that fish. You have all walks of life, short hair, long hair, pro's, amateur's, no boat, flat bottom boats, bass boats, all types that fish. Something about waiting for that pull on the end of the line excites people. Ever little kids with no patience will sit and wait on "the pishy to pull". I was fishing around an old bridge a few weeks ago and a guy come down the bank, carrying his bass rod, and right behind him was his little girl. She looked to be about 4yo and she was on her way down the bank. He ask me if I had been catching any and proceeded to tell me that him and the little girl was fishing from the bank last week and she caught 4 bass around the bridge when they started pulling water....I know why he fishes...to spend time with the little lady. I know why she fishes....because she likes catching fish haha.
We all fish for different reasons, for me it's relaxing, it get's me away from the grind of school, and the work week. A lot of times I let fishing get too serious when I fish tournament's or on guide trips but then something in me I think likes that excitement and it is a different kind of "stress" on tournament morning or when you hook that first 4lbr and trying to get him in the boat while he's jumping with your buzzbait hanging out of his mouth.
I think my tournament fishing really took a turn for the better when I started paying attention to "why I fish". Instead of going out every time and trying to get a check because I needed the money, I started going out and trying to win because I loved the competition. This helped me more than you can ever imagine. When you mentally focus on the game of fishing you start to reach a new level of competition, and when you figure out "Why you fish" then you can begin to reshape "how you fish". Now that I focus more on the competition of fishing and the pure enjoyment of the sport I feel like that has opened my mind up to see new things while I am on the water and make better decisions on where to locate fish. I am now 100% better at making decisions on the go and do not mind changing a game plan up the morning of a tournament.
In the coming weeks try to develop the "why you fish" while your on the water and the pure enjoyment of the sport. I believe when you learn to do this you will become a more relaxed and confident angler, making better decisions while your on the water.

Go2Bait Company
1st of my sponsorship blogs is going to start out with Go2Bait Company. What is Go2? Go2Baits is a company manufacturing high quality soft plastics. Their product line includes 4in "Drop shot" worm, 4in Lil Thumper "beaver style bait", 4in swim-n-crawl, 4.5in little shaky worm, 7in shaky worm, 8in split tail, 10in paddle tail, 13in paddle tail, 14in curly tail, and the Go2Bait Jolt(Swim bait).
Why use Go2? The reason I use Go2Bait plastics is strictly because 2 reasons.....lift....and action...Hand poured product's have a lift and action unmatched by any competitor mass produced product. When you see a hand poured product in the water you will quickly recognize what I am talking about. These product's give the fish a new look that they have never seen and it makes a very big difference! To view a Go2Bait product in a tank and a quick demo of what I am talking about just watch this video. Tony(The owner) give a very good description of what's different about their baits and compares them to a competitor product.
If you have decided you need a new "Go to bait" you can buy online here Stand Up Baits
or go to Www.Go2baits.net to find a dealer near you!
Thank you for your time! Feel free to post a link to all your friends as I will be doing blogs on here pretty regular starting with sponsor product's and then taking request from fans! So decide what you want to hear about and let me know VIA Facebook link here My Fan Page
