12volt vs. 24volt

Had a fan ask the question today "why are some things 12volt and others 24volt". So I am going to throw this together real quick and try to answer his question.
Typically smaller trolling motors for your boat will use a 12volt system. These are the least expensive for a boat and pretty easy to wire up. The downside to a 12volt system is you will not get as much "force" from your motor and also obviously have decreased battery life associated with this.
A 24 volt system (which I run in my aluminum boat and tournament bass boat) is a little more expensive but definitely a better choice in my opinion. With this your going to get more "force" from your motor as well as extended battery life because instead of pulling all the power from 1 battery your going to pull from 2. If you have the option I would recommend a 24volt system! Some people are now even stepping up to 36volt systems on bigger boats. For this of course your going to have 3 batteries. Here is a link to show you how to wire a 24volt system to your boat. Thanks for being fans!!! You all rock!
